Planning And Zoning Commission Tables Homewood Suites Amendment
By MALENA OGLES

Planning and Zoning Commissioners tabled a final site plan amendment Tuesday that would allow developers of a four-story extended stay hotel to add 22 parking spaces, 10 hotel rooms and rear-facing windows to the original plan.

Before the meeting, developers asked the commission to review the request in a February meeting, allowing more time to forge an agreement with two nearby hotels for shared parking spaces.

Mark Priestner, with Planning Concepts, an urban planning company, said the additional parking would allow for more greenbelt space in an area bordering the hotel called Homewood Suites and a residential neighborhood.

During the meeting, commissioners also:

  • Approved a request to change zoning on a lot on Dodge Street from single-family residential to single-family detached and attached residential, to allow for the construction of single-family homes;

  • Approved a request to change the zoning for a lot on Border Avenue from single-family residential to single-family detached and attached residential so that the applicant can build single-family attached homes;

  • Approved changing the zoning of an area two lots west of the northwest intersection of West 34th Street and Grand Avenue to single-family residential to allow the applicant to construct a single-family home.

  • In a board workshop, which immediately followed the Planning and Zoning meeting, commissioners also received:

  • Information on a final plat that will create a one-lot subdivision on .418 acres of land located north of the northwest intersection of Old Bullard Road and Hamvasy Lane.

  • Information about replatting a portion of a lot located south of the southwest intersection of Robertson Road and South Bennett Avenue for the Bennett Avenue dedication and new alignment of the Sunnybrook Drive extension.
