Jacksonville ISD Board To Interview Six Superintendent Applicants
By KELLY GOOCH
Staff Writer

JACKSONVILLE -- Jacksonville ISD board members will interview six applicants for the position of superintendent next week.

Board Vice President Jim Tarrant said two applicants will be interviewed Monday, two will be interviewed Tuesday and two will be interviewed Wednesday.

"(Those six were chosen because) all of them had strong track records (and) a lot of experience," he said. "(Their) backgrounds we thought would be a good fit for Jacksonville."

He said the six applicants are from all over the state of Texas and during the interview, each board member will ask the applicant two questions.

"It's just an opportunity to see how they seem to fit with us as a board," Tarrant said.

Once the six applicants are interviewed, he said the search will be narrowed down to three applicants.

"It'll be a real tough job (to narrow it down) because they're all very good," Board President James Houser said.

Tarrant said the spouses of the three applicants will be invited to meet with the spouses of board members "to make sure the town is where they want to live."

Special board meetings where the applicants will be interviewed are scheduled to take place in the Jacksonville ISD Administration Building.

However, the interviews will be done in closed session and are not open to the public.

Current Superintendent Stuart Bird plans to retire in June, and Houser said the plan now is to name a lone finalist in February.

"(I'm) looking forward to going through the process," Tarrant said. "TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) has done a good job at coaching us through the process."
