Lone Star Man Suffers Burns Following Fire In Van
GILMER—A Lone Star man suffered third-degree burns over 50 percent of his body following a fire in his van Friday afternoon.

According to fire officials, Richard Chapman, 47, had a battery in the back of his 1994 Ford van which powered carpet cleaning equipment. Gilmer Fire Chief Mike Melton said they believe the fumes from a gas can caused the fire after the battery sparked.

The accident occurred around 1:16 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of N. Bradford St. in Gilmer Melton said an individual was able to put out the fire on Chapman and transport him to East Texas Medical Center — Gilmer. He was then transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas by helicopter.
