A high speed chase ended in a three-car collision, resulting in injuries around 7 p.m. tonight.
Officials say a man driving a green Ford Taurus had allegedly stolen the car and was being pursued by two Smith County Sheriff’s Department patrol cars.
Witnesses at the scene say the driver was speeding when the suspect approached the right turn lane at the intersection of East Front Street and South Southeast Loop 323. The suspect lost control, then crossed the median at the intersection and struck two vehicles that were stopped at the red light, heading south on the loop. A Jeep flipped on its top from the impact of the collision. According to witness accounts, a child was ejected from the Jeep.
Officials say the suspect left the scene of the accident on foot and headed towards a wooded area. They are currently on the scene with a K-9 unit in search of the driver. It is unknown at this time how many people were transported to the hospital.
Tyler police and Department of Public Safety officers assisted deputies at the scene.
