JACKSONVILLE -- House of Israel member Robert James Fox was arrested Wednesday by Jacksonville Police in Rusk at the Cherokee County Courthouse.

Jason Price, detective with the police department, said the arrest happened at approximately 9:40 a.m., after Fox showed up for a docket call with a group of supporters.

A notice to appear in court for possession of dangerous drugs was sent to his old Jacksonville address on Main Street, he said, and somehow he received the notice.

"He knew he had warrants, and he showed up anyway," Price said.

He said the judge Fox was supposed to appear before actually was the same judge that signed the warrant for his arrest for barratry, a Class 3 felony that is "basically soliciting other people for legal work."

After Fox was detained by court personnel, Price said the House of Israel member was arrested and taken to the police department where he was arraigned Thursday morning for barratry and taken to the Cherokee County Jail.

"He did not cooperate whatsoever," he added of Fox's arrest. Price said authorities had been looking for Fox since the end of July, and he faces from two to 10 years in prison if he's convicted.

During a previous search of the House of Israel building on Main Street, police found a handwritten document that police previously said praised convicted Oklahoma bombers Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols.

Police also found documentation Fox had filed in the state of Virginia in which he attempted to become legal counsel for John Walker Lindh, an American citizen captured in Afghanistan fighting for the Taliban.

Lindh was represented by a well-known and respected California lawyer and former prosecutor, James Brosnahan.

As of Thursday afternoon, Fox was still in the Cherokee County Jail with a $30,000 bond.
