UT Tyler Plans To Break Ground On Art Complex This Afternoon
The University of Texas at Tyler will have a groundbreaking ceremony today for the Department of Art and Art History's new $7 million fine arts complex.

The event is set for 4:30 p.m. today at the art studio.

The new complex will provide an additional 29,000 square-feet surrounding the existing art studio on the main campus. It also will include a lecture hall, studio work spaces and department offices. Construction began in September, and the complex is expected to open in fall 2010.

The groundbreaking ceremony will include remarks by UT Tyler President Rodney Mabry, Gregg Lassen, vice president for business affairs and Gary Hatcher, professor and Department of Art and Art History chair.

A reception will take place immediately following the ceremony at the Patriot Village Apartments Clubhouse to honor art faculty and major donors.
