Flu Vaccine Clinics Begin Monday
The Northeast Texas Public Health District will offer flu vaccinations beginning Monday, NTPHD officials announced. The vaccination clinics will operate every Monday through Thursday, 8 to 11 a.m., at 815 N. Broadway Ave., and will continue until the supply is depleted.

The cost for the flu vaccination is $20 per person and the cost for the flu mist is $25 per person. Medicaid and Medicare will be accepted. An annual influenza vaccination is recommended for everyone six months of age and older.

"Flu is more than just a bad cold that makes people feel uncomfortable," said Dr. David Lakey, Texas Department of State Health Services Commissioner. "This viral infection can lead to a serious, sometimes deadly illness."

Individuals at increased risk include children 6 months through 4 years old, people with chronic medical conditions, residents of longterm care facilities and pregnant women. Early immunizations are also encouraged for those 50 or older, for people who live with or care for those at increased risk of flu complications and for those who come in close contact with children younger than 6 months old.

"People at increased risk for complications from the flu should get the vaccine as early as possible," said Dr. Jonathan MacClements, Smith County Health Authority.
