Longview Airport Worker Burned When Jet Fuel Tank Catches Fire
By MALENA OGLES
Staff Writer

LONGVIEW -- An airport employee was burned Wednesday when the gas tank on a Lear jet he was working on caught fire.

Fire and rescue operation units were called to Aerosmith Aviation shortly after 1 p.m. following a "flash fire" inside an airport hangar.

Officials said the man, whose name is not yet been released, was transported by air ambulance to a burn center in Dallas.

At the time of the fire, the Dallas-based employee was performing during a precipitation test on the Lear 45 jet aircraft.

"According to our first responders the flash fire extinguished itself but not before injuring the worker, causing burns," Gregg County Sheriff's Office Lt. Mike Claxton said.

Airport Division Deputies and the Gregg County Fire Marshal were at the scene aiding in the investigation into the cause of the fire.

"We hope that the investigation can determine the cause and or origin of the fire," Claxton said.
