Tyler Chamber to Honor Local Accomplishments at Annual Meeting
The Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce will honor local business and civic accomplishments at the chamber's Annual Meeting on Tuesday.

The event takes place at the Harvey Convention Center. A reception will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.

"The meeting, of course, is when we present the annual awards and highlight the work we've accomplished over the past year," said Henry Bell III, the chamber's chief operating officer.

The deadline to buy tickets was last week, and Bell expects a large turnout.

"We usually have between 500 and 600 people," Bell said.

The evening will include remarks by 2007-08 Chamber Board Chairman Dr. Aubrey Sharpe. Sharpe will review the chamber's accomplishments during the past year and introduce the 2008-09 chairman, Robert Hancock. Hancock will introduce officers, council chairmen and the chairman-elect for the new fiscal year.

Sponsors include TXU, AT&T, Austin Bank, Capital One, Carrier Corporation, The Genecov Group, Harvey Convention Center, Oncor, Prothro Wilhelmi & Co., Southside Bank, Suddenlink, Texas Bank & Trust, Tyler Junior College,

Tyler Morning Telegraph, University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler, and The University of Texas at Tyler.

The evening's top awards are the T.B. Butler Award and the W.C. Windsor Award. The T.B. Butler Award, sponsored by the T.B. Butler Publishing Co., was established in the memory of the company's founder and his son, the late Judge T.B. and Tom Butler Jr. Recipients are selected for outstanding contributions in leadership, service or community improvements. The award has been given annually since 1929.

The W.C. Windsor Award honors service among young citizens. The award was established in 1952 by the late Tyler civic leader W.C. Windsor to encourage the development of young leadership. The chamber presents the award to a Tyler resident between the ages of 21 and 40, who exhibits the greatest activity and achievement in community betterment.
