Faulkner Tennis Tournament Finals Today
The annual Bob Faulkner Super Championship Junior Major Zone Tennis Tournament continued Sunday at sites across Tyler with doubles champions crowned and semifinal singles matches determined.

Evan Corona-Saunders of Houston and Alex Van Velzer of Montgomery scored an 8-6 victory over a pair from Austin, Russell Bader and Alex Durham, to claim the Boys' 18 Doubles A championship.

Tanner Brown of New Braunfels and Kosuke Hasegawa of Wesley Chapel, Fla., topped Abraham Hsu of Stafford and Michael Reichmann of Houston 8-2 in the finale of the Boys' 16 Doubles A tournament.

Brown and Hasegawa will square off in the semifinal of the Boys' 16 Singles A competition. Top-seeded Ashok Narayana of Houston faces Joe Hill of McAllen in the other semifinal.

Both matches are set for 8 a.m. today at the Tyler Tennis and Swim Club.

Nicole Long of Plano and Crystal Leung of Houston defeated McAllen's Arantxa Hernandez and Arlington's Marcelli Magday 9-7 to claim first place in the Girls' 16 Doubles competition.

Not only were Long and Leung the top seed in doubles, they were given the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the singles competition as well.

Teal Vosburgh of Katy upset No. 1 seed Long by a score of 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, Sunday morning in the round of 16 of the Girls' 16 Singles A before advancing to the semifinals.

Facing Vosburgh at 8 a.m. today at Hollytree Country Club will be Rachel Baldree of Corpus Christi. Erin Gebes of Littleton, Colo., takes on Leung on the other side of the bracket.

As teammates in the Girls' 16 Doubles A tournament, Gebes and Vosburgh fell in the semifinals to Long and Leung.

Top-seeded Mitchell and James Martell of Tyler lost a tight match 9-8 in the finals of the Boys' 16 Doubles B to a duo from Florida: Elliot Mustill of Sarasota, Fla., and Antonio Pena of Weston, Fla.

In the Girls' 18 Doubles final, Katy's Angela Rachel and Sugar Land's Audrey Wooland played Blair Shankle of Comfort and Samantha Adams of New Braunfels.

Shankle and Adams knocked off the top seed duo of Abby Hayley of The Woodlands and Kourtney Howell of Cypress to reach the final.

Shankle is also still alive in the singles bracket after toppling another No. 1 seed on Sunday morning and will face Howell in a semifinal in the Girls' 18 Singles bracket.

Lubbock's Whitney Wofford will play Houston's Elizabeth Begley in the other semifinal with both to be played today morning at eight at Hollytree Country Club.

In the Boys' 18 Singles A contest, No. 1 seed Max Stevens of Dallas came through with a two victories on Sunday to secure his spot in today's semifinals.

Daniel Whitehead of Sugar Land will be Stevens' foe in his semifinal with Houston's Jose Martinez and Wichita Falls' Chase Curry playing in the other semifinal. Both matches will be 8 a.m. today at Tyler Tennis and Swim Club.

The finals of all aforementioned semifinals will be at Tyler Tennis and Swim Club at noon today.
