Lady in Waiting: Mary Caroline Young
Mary Caroline Young, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Carl Young of Tyler, is a sophomore at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where she is majoring in marketing and international studies. Miss Young is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and the SMU Student Foundation.
Miss Young is on the SMU Honor Roll with High Distinction for both fall 2007 and spring 2008, ranking her in the top 5 percent of all undergraduate students. During the summer of 2008, she was involved in raising money to build water wells at hospitals and schools in Kenya, Africa. Her work contributed to a portion of the $762,000 that was raised in this effort.
Miss Young is a graduate of All Saints Episcopal School in Tyler, where she was a member of National Honor Society and was named to the Headmasters Honor Roll. She served on the All Saints Honor Council and was president of the Trojan Spirit Club.
Miss Young was a member of the varsity golf team for four years, and was chosen captain her senior year. During those four years, her team was state champion one year and state runner-up for two years. She was a member of the first team All District. She won multiple awards in sculpture and ceramics, and was selected Most Outstanding Artist her senior year. She also was involved were The Art Club, Spanish Club and The Young Republicans.
Miss Young is a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she has served as an acolyte. She was a member of the Junior Symphony League of Tyler and received the Windsor Award. Miss Young also has volunteered as a junior and senior hostess for the Texas Rose Festival Queen's Tea, and attended Camp Longhorn for five years.
In February 2009, Miss Young will be presented as a Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Debutante at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Hall as did her sister, Michael Ann Young, in 2007.
Family members who have participated in past Rose Festivals include her sister, Michael Ann Young, 2006 lady-in-waiting; her mother, Laura Koenig Young, 1996-2000 Wardrobe Properties Committee, 2003 Queen's Tea Committee, 2002 and 2003 Wardrobe Committee doorkeeper, 2004 Ladies' Luncheon chairman, 2004 attendants chairman, 2006 and 2008 Queen's Luncheon co-chairman; father, Michael C. Young, usher for many years.
