Rose Festival Queen

Sarah Elizabeth Clyde, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Nelson Clyde IV of Tyler, is serving as an ambassador for the TRF and the rose industry during 2008. She is a 2007 honors graduate from Grace Community High School, where she was a National Honor Society member and a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students.

Miss Clyde has a passion for the fine arts, apparent through her extracurricular activities and awards. She received the choir's Director's Choice Award and the Cougar Award for Fine Arts, was choir leader, and played the "Fairy Godmother" in her high school's 2007 production of "Cinderella." In a Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Choir competition, Miss Clyde received the highest markings in numerous small and large ensembles.

In addition to Miss Clyde's choral accolades, she was a 2005 District Spelling Champion, the features editor and grammarian for the Cougar Times, and a mock trial participant. She was a participant in the 2006 National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine at UCLA and the recipient of the Association of Christian School International Distinguished High School Scholar Award for fine arts, academics and Christian service. She also has been honored as a 2007 Rotary Scholar.

Miss Clyde is actively involved in her community as a volunteer for the Texas Rose Festival Association, East Texas Symphony Orchestra, Salvation Army, Meals On Wheels and Hospice. She attends Green Acres Baptist Church and was the recipient of the Windsor Distinguished Award as a Junior Symphony League of Tyler member.

Miss Clyde served as junior hostess for the Queen's Tea, was an attendant in 1996 for Queen Anna Elizabeth Clyde, and was attendant dresser for Grace Knight in 2006. She attends Texas Christian University, where she is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, as well as a member of the Kappa Pickers.
