Whitehouse Clashes With Celina

WHITEHOUSE -- The season opener brought a highly regarded Class 5A team to Wildcat Stadium for the first time. The non-district finale brings the defending 3A Division II state champs.

Whitehouse (3-1) will finish an interesting non-district schedule when it entertains storied Celina (3-1) -- the only UIL school with eight state titles -- at 7:30 p.m. today at Wildcat Stadium.

The Wildcats opened the season with Garland Naaman Forest, and then played Class 4A No. 10 Sulphur Springs before meetings with Corsicana and Red Oak.

Whitehouse went 2-2 on the field during the stretch, but was granted a victory when Naaman Forest forfeited its 52-35 win for using an ineligible player.

So far, the Wildcats' offense has been the team strength.

Senior quarterback Brady Attaway has completed 95 of 162 passes for 598 yards and nine touchdowns with eight interceptions. His favorite target has been sophomore receiver Trey Metoyer, who has 29 receptions for 568 yards and six scores.

Senior Asher Williams has 12 receptions for 131 yards and a touchdown, while juniors Jamie Antu (12 catches, 84 yards) and Skip Caldwell (11-109) have also excelled in the passing game.

Meanwhile, Celina became the state's top team in terms of state championships last season. The Bobcats were denied a repeat of perfection Sept. 12 against Class 2A Dangerfield, Whitehouse head coach Randy McFarlin's former school.

But Celina returned to form last week in a 41-13 win against Fort Worth Arlington Heights, the Bobcats first 4A opponent in school history.

Unlike Whitehouse, Celina promises to keep the ball on the ground for the most part. Much of the workload has gone to senior Troy McCartney, who has rushed 69 times for 566 yards and five touchdowns.

In the meantime, junior quarterback Cody Worrell has recorded 51 carries for 252 yards and two touchdowns, plus has completed 14 of 28 passes for 230 yards and a pair of scores.
