City To Replace Water Main In South Tyler
By CINDY MALLETTE

The city of Tyler Water Utilities Department plans to replace a portion of water main on West Grande Road beginning Monday.

The replacement comes after several water line breaks along this segment in the past year. It includes a break Wednesday morning that temporarily closed portions of West Grande. That segment has suffered five breaks in the past month. Each time, water service to area residents was disrupted.

"In order to resolve this, we have to do a line replacement," said Greg Morgan, Water Utilities operations manager.

The segment replacement will be completed in two phases.  Phase one includes 900 feet of pipe on West Grande Road between Gleneagles Drive east to Grande Hills Estates Apartments.  Phase two is an additional 1,200-foot segment on West Grande Road between Gleneagles Drive to Old Jacksonville Highway.  Each phase is anticipated to take two weeks to complete, officials said.

The total cost of the repair is estimated at $150,000, Morgan said, and will be performed by city employees. Funding will come from the Water Utilities operations fund.

Area residents can expect at least one temporary break in service when the water main is finally transferred, Morgan said. In case of a planned disruption in service, residents will receive 24- to 48-hours advance notice, he said.
