Campus Notepad
Hubbard
Hubbard Middle School will have a patriotic pep rally at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the gym. Hubbard students will remember Sept. 11 and the Patriot Act during the first rally of the year.
Student council members, National Junior Honor Society members, Teen Leadership, performing arts students, cheerleaders and athletes will take part in remembering Sept. 11 and in building school pride and school spirit.
Bell
Bell Elementary School will have "grandfriends" week Monday through Friday during lunch in the cafeteria. Grandparents are invited to spend lunch with their students. Memory photos are available for $2.
Caldwell
Caldwell Elementary School will have a PTA meeting/Open House at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Caldwell Auditorium. After the PTA meeting, parents and students will visit their classrooms. Parents will have the opportunity to join the Caldwell PTA. Parents may also sign up for committees or to be a volunteer.
Clarkston
Clarkston Elementary School will have a "general conference" for parents at 6 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria. Teachers will share classroom news, procedures and expectations for the school year. All parents are invited to attend.
Dixie
Dixie Elementary School will have a PTA/Open House from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. There will be a brief meeting and the staff will be introduced. Parents will then have the opportunity to go to their child's room to meet the teacher.
Griffin
Griffin Elementary School will have Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the cafeteria.
Jack
Jack Elementary School will have a hot dog social and open house from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria.
The social will take place from 5 to 6 p.m., while the PTA meeting will occur from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and the open house from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in classrooms.
Owens
Owens Elementary School will have a "grandfriends" preview night from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Students are invited to bring their families to shop early at the Book Fair and register to win prizes.
Also Thursday, Owens Elementary will have a PTA meeting/Open House/General Teacher Conference at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.
On Friday, Owens will have "grandfriends" day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Book Fair at Owens also takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
Rice
Rice Elementary School will have a General PTA meeting and open house on Tuesday which is open to all members. Parents can see their child's classroom and visit with the teachers.
Parents of grades kindergarten through second will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and parents of students in grades third through fifth will meet from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.
Woods
Andy Woods Elementary School will have a PTA meeting/General Conferences for third, fourth and fifth grades from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria. During the PTA meeting, information will be shared about opportunities for parent involvement. At the classroom general conferences, information will be shared about classroom procedures, expectations and activities. Students may attend with their parents.
Festival
Tyler ISD schools will perform at the 21st annual Festival on the Square Saturday. From 10 to 10:20 a.m. the Hogg Middle School orchestra will perform; from 11:20 to 11:40 a.m. the Stewart Middle School Choir will take the stage; from 2:15 to 2:40 p.m. the Boulter Middle School Choir will perform; and from 3:45 to 4:10 p.m., the Griffin Elementary School Choir will take the stage.
'Rachel's Challenge'
Various Tyler ISD middle and high school students will attend the "Rachel's Challenge" assembly Monday through Thursday.
The public is invited to attend a community assembly from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Caldwell Auditorium, 300 S. College St.
The program was created by the father of a student who was killed at Columbine High School. According to Tyler ISD, it is based on an essay titled, "My Ethics, My Codes of Life," written by Rachel Joy Scott, the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. In the essay, she issued a challenge to her generation. She was known at school for being a friend to students who were not popular or who had difficulties in school. Her acts of kindness and compassion, combined with entries found in the six diaries she maintained before her death, are the inspiration behind "Rachel's Challenge."
All Saints
Monday is the All Saints Episcopal School Back-to School Night. Child care is available in Davis Gym from 5:30 to 8 p.m. New families are invited to a meeting with Eddie Francis, director of development, and All Saints Headmaster Art Burke, in the Student Center from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m.
The Parent Association (PA) meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Lower School. Parents will visit classrooms following the PA meeting. Parents of fifth- and sixth-graders will follow their child's schedule.
Individual fall pictures will be taken Wednesday. Children should wear their chapel uniforms.
An informational meeting for students and parents who might be interested in Odyssey of the Mind will take place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium.
Registration for the Boy Scouts will take place in the auditorium of the Lower School at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Sixth-graders will take a canoe trip on the Sabine River on Friday.
The Sally Foster gift wrap fundraiser ends Sept. 18.
Gorman
"Rachel's Challenge" will be presented for all Bishop T.K. Gorman Catholic School seventh- and eighth-grade students on Monday at Caldwell Auditorium.
Middle school fall sports pictures will be taken in uniform on Wednesday during the Middle school athletic block.
The College Advising Workshop for all high school students and parents or guardians is at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Holy Family Library. This workshop will review the college selection and application process. It is open to the public.
A Cheer Clinic for pre-K through fifth-grade students will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Registration forms are available at Gorman.
Auditions for "The Crucible" will take place from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Sept. 16-17 in Room 110 with cast and production teams posted Sept. 19. Auditions are open to Gorman middle school and high school students. The Arthur Miller drama will be presented at Gorman Nov. 20-22 on the Haddad Gym stage.
Grace
There will be a meeting for all Grace Community High School parents from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Parents will follow their child's schedule to meet the teachers and hear what each class has planned for the school year.
On Wednesday, the high school yearbook class will travel to Taylor Publishing in Dallas to learn the latest about putting a yearbook together. They will leave at 8 a.m.
On Thursday, the second in a Bible Study series on parenting presented by Sue Johnson will take place. This study meets in room 204 at the lower campus from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Stepping Stone
Stepping Stone first and second grades will go to Prestige Estates from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday for a balloon release in celebration of "Assisted Living Week." Students should wear their field trip uniforms.
