Henderson County To Celebrate Heritage
ATHENS -- Henderson County history will be on display 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday during the second Heritage Festival.
Henderson County Historical Commission is sponsoring events on the square.
"One reason for the festival is to promote the understanding that the past is worth saving," Judy Jacobson, commission member and event chairperson, said."
She said the festival will include archaeological and Native American exhibits, Revolutionary and Civil War camps, antique farm equipment, a quilt show and stagecoach. Spinners, potters, soap and candlemakers and basket weavers will be demonstrating their skills.
"While our primary purpose is to focus on and stimulate interest in history, there is no reason we can't provide a little fun while we are at it," Jacobson added.
Storytellers, gospel and country music, square dancers and the Frontier Brigade Band will entertain. Informal talks will be given about county history.
Wagon-Wheel Antiques of Murchison will giver appraisals of antiques and a history scavenger hunt will take place through the day.
The winner of the Historic Henderson County Photography Contest, sponsored by historical commission and Athens Daily Review, also will be announced.
