East Texas Sports Briefs
Robert E. Lee Travels To McKinney
Robert E. Lee stays on the road to battle McKinney Boyd at 7 p.m. today at McKinney Boyd High School.
Boyd won the Gold Bracket of the Tyler Invitational last weekend, thanks to a second-place finish in pool play. It's lone tourney loss was to Richardson, which also beat Lee in the championship match.
The Lady Raiders (18-2) defeated Hallsville in three games earlier this week to notch their 18th victory.
John Tyler Volleyball
The John Tyler volleyball team is slated for action today against Longview.
The varsity match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
JT is coming off a 3-1 win on Tuesday against Mabank.
The Lady Lions evened their record at 10-10 with the victory.
Cross Country
The Tyler Lee Cross Country Classic is scheduled for Saturday at UT Tyler. The Patriots are hosting a collegiate meet beginning at 7:30 a.m., followed by the high schools at 8:30 a.m.
The high school meet will consist of 5A/4A Varsity Girls (8:30 a.m.), 5A/4A Varsity Boys (8:50 a.m.), JV Girls (9:15 a.m.), JV Boys (9:35 a.m.), 1A-3A Varsity Girls (10:10 a.m.), 1A-3A Varsity Boys (10:30 a.m.), 1A-3A JV Girls (10:55 a.m.), 1-3A JV Boys (11:20 a.m.).
Soccer
The Tyler Junior College men's soccer team opens its home season today against Richland at Pat Hartley Field.
The Apaches will also entertain Cedar Valley on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
The No. 9 Apaches (3-0) had a successful Labor Day Weekend swing to Georgia with a 1-0 victory over No. 2 Georgia Perimeter and a 5-0 win over No. 8 Louisburg (N.C.).
