September 6: Theft Is Theft
This is in response to Phillip and Donna Goodwin’s letter on Aug. 28, regarding a stolen political sign.
Their letter was the best of letters and the worst of letters. It had superb writing and flawed judgment.
Their letter was the best of letters and the worst of letters. It had superb writing and flawed judgment.
First, they pooh-poohed the significance of a stolen political sign. If this sign theft from a front yard is acceptable, when is any theft from a front yard unacceptable? Is it acceptable to steal a flower pot, a card, a bird bath, a dog or a car? America is still a country of laws. We should abide by the laws, as well as the commandment that says, “Thou shalt not steal.”
Second, the letter-writer whose sign was stolen has worn the uniform of the American military. He went into harm’s way for his country, for our right to support whoever we want for president. He also served to defend our freedom to write our letters.
