Carver Added As Write-In For Precinct 2 Constable's Race
A second write-in candidate will join two names atop the November ballot for Smith County Precinct 2 constable.

Charles Carver, 64, a former Smith County district attorney's investigator, was certified as a write-in candidate in August and will face write-in candidate Precinct 3 chief deputy James Lee and the Republican Party nominee Andy Dunklin.

The Precinct 2 position became vacant after the death of Constable Frank Creath in June.

Carver said the race is heating up and should be fun.

The candidate said lawmen should not bend and that he will bring that mentality to the precinct if voters choose him. Carver said he has decades of experience working for prosecutors in and outside of Smith County and that he will perform all of the duties in service of the citizens, the Justice of the Peace and the court.

He said if he can serve the court and represent and protect the citizens within his precinct he will have done his job. He said he will have an "open-door" policy and will welcome any citizen complaints or concerns.

"Everybody knows me for being straightforward and honest," he said. "I think it's time for that."

Carver is a 40-year resident of Noonday.
