UT Tyler Alumna Awarded ‘Teacher of the Year’ Honors
Stephanie Wiley Williams, a 1994 graduate of The University of Texas at Tyler, has been named Texas’ Region IV Secondary Teacher of the Year, Dr. William Geiger, College of Education and Psychology dean, announced.
Region IV consists of the entire Houston region. Williams, who teaches high school geometry at Travis High School, was earlier named Fort Bend Independent School District Secondary Teacher of the Year and became a finalist in the regional competition. She now is a finalist for the Texas Education Agency’s Texas Teacher of the Year program.
“It is an honor to be chosen as Region IV Teacher of the Year,” said Williams, who graduated from UT Tyler with a bachelor of science in mathematics. “Throughout my 15-year career as a math teacher, my focus has been on developing relationships with students which allow me to assist them with achieving their goals. UT Tyler provided me with a firm foundation in mathematics along with a student teaching experience that helped me to formulate my own personal philosophy of education.
“Each time I step into a classroom to teach, my goal is to instruct, inspire and empower my students to reach for their dreams.”
Raised in Canton, Williams is married and has one daughter, Callie.
