Game Wardens Form Storm Strike Team
A "strike team" of game wardens and other Texas Parks and Wildlife Department personnel on Monday were in Tyler to be deployed in response to Hurricane Gustav.
Statewide, more than 230 game wardens and their equipment are in position to move, according to information from the state.
Strike teams of 50, including game wardens, supervisors, radio technicians, GIS teams and boat mates, have been assigned trucks, boats and fuel trailers.

Some College Classes Moved Or Canceled
Some classes in the Tyler Junior College Ornelas Health & Physical Education Center have been moved or canceled, the college announced.
The center is housing about 225 patients from three evacuated nursing home facilities.
Credit and continuing education dance classes will instead be held in Wise Cultural Arts as scheduled. Swimming and aquatic exercise courses are canceled. Other changes are pending.
Weather Threat Closes Longview City Offices
City offices in Longview are closed today because of the threat of damaging weather.
City Manager David Willard said, "Many of City's essential personnel are staffing the Emergency Operations Center. We will evaluate Wednesday's status, should weather continue to worsen."

With severe weather expected, the National Weather Service reminds residents to be aware of advisory terms.
Severe thunderstorm watch: Conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorm warning: Issued when a thunderstorm produces hail three-fourths of an inch or larger, or winds of at least 58 mph.
