TxDOT Ready to Respond to Gustav
The Texas Department of Transportation is ready to respond to Hurricane Gustav as moves inland, the agency said.
TxDOT personnel and equipment are standing by to react to problems caused by heavy rains and wind. Rain can create hazardous driving conditions on roads and bridges. Traffic signals, road signage and travel lanes may be damaged.
To aid evacuees, TxDOT has deployed signs along evacuation routes directing travelers to shelter facilities.
In Gregg County, an alternate route is open for westbound traffic on Interstate 20 to help traffic from Louisiana circumvent a construction zone near Texas Highway 31. Travelers may choose to stay on I-20, or to take a marked alternate route, exiting at Loop 281 (Estes Parkway) and returning to the interstate via SH 31.
TxDOT is also participating in activities at the State Operations Center in Austin.
