TJC Achieves Goal(s) In First Home Game
By TRAVIS YOESTING

One minute, 40 seconds.

That's all it took for the Apache Ladies to show fans the brand of soccer Tyler Junior College will display in the inaugural year of women's soccer.

Lauren Jeansonne's chip in the second minute of the game opened the floodgates for TJC, en route to a dominating 10-0 victory over Bossier Parish (La.) in the team's home opener Friday night at the Pat Hartley Soccer Complex.

"I don't think they got over our half many times," said TJC coach Corey Rose of his team's defensive pressure. "That's a credit to our work rate. We just wanted to come out and show the fans what to expect for the rest of the year."

By the time the floodgates closed with 30 minutes left in the game, nine different Apache Ladies notched goals, including two from Jeansonne.

In the first half, goals from Ashley Wall (39:50), Christine Ragone (35:40), Scarlet Tarno (32:56) and Giselle Bryce-Cotes (3:09) gave TJC a 5-0 lead at the break. Bryce-Cotes, a Tyler native, scored on a bullet that nailed the upper left corner from 25 yards out.

TJC tallied 38 shots in the first half, 15 of which were on target. While the shot total was lower in the second half, 18, a higher percentage landed on target, 10.

"We made the adjustment at half to get it wider and try to cross it in and just to make better decisions on the shots we were taking," Rose said.

In the second half, the Apache Ladies needed just 1 minute, 10 seconds to get back into the scoring mood when Lucy Milward kicked in a loose ball in the 6-yard box to extend the lead to 6-0.

In addition to Jeansonne's second goal (40:22), Kayla Mason (37:27), Cassandra Branch (34:14) and Ashleigh Keelen (30:24) scored in the second half.

"I'm happy with the way the finishing went in the second half," Rose said.

After the game, Rose said he appreciated the show of support for the team's first-ever home game.

"We had great fan support," Rose said. "The atmosphere was really good for a soccer game."

TJC next takes the field to play at Eastfield College on Sept. 6.

Takes Two From LeTourneau
Texas College swept LeTourneau in a soccer doubleheader Friday at the TC soccer field.

The Lady Steers won 4-0 as goalkeeper Mirian Ranblas had two key saves, while Teresa Monsivais had two goals and an assist.

Anna Sanchez and Leslie Arias added a goal apiece and Diana Monsivais and Blanca Cardiel (two) added assists.

"The whole team played well," TC coach Demetrio Hernandez said. "It was our best game as far as creating plays and finishing plays."

The Steers won over LeTourneau as well, scoring a 3-2 victory.

Edgar Monroy scored two goals for the Steers, while Gerardo Cuevas added a goal and an assist. Edgar Coria and Hector DeLeon added assists for TC.

Hernandez noted the play of sweeper Markus Martinez, center-midfielder Jony Rivera and defender Hugo Adame.
