Winona Downs Waskom 34-8
WASKOM -- The Winona Wildcats ran away from the Waskom Wildcats, 34-8, Friday night at Wildcat Stadium in the season opener for both teams.

Winona's win came largely on the big plays of running back Bryan Waters, who had 154 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns for the night.

Winona scored on each of its first three offensive plays in the first quarter.

Waters got his first touchdown as he scampered 68 yards for the touchdown on the first play of the game.

Waskom failed to move the ball after the kickoff exchange, giving the ball back to Winona.

Again it was Waters, who ran 36 yards for the touchdown.

A Waskom fumble was recovered by Winona on the Waskom 16-yard line. This time, C.J. Kelly took the ball for a 16-yard rush around end.

Neither team found the end zone in the second quarter as the offenses were unable to advance the ball successfully.

After halftime, Winona got back on the scoreboard following a 12-yard rush by Desmond Pullum, the only score of the third quarter.

Winona's final score came in the fourth when Pullum hit wide receiver Matthew Phelps on a 48-yard touchdown strike.

Waskom fought for pride in the fourth quarter, scoring on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Bo Booth to A.J. Jackson. Booth then scored on a 2-point conversion to make the final score 34-8.

For the game, Waskom rushers carried the ball 34 times for 107 yards.

Jacolbi Johnson was the leading rusher for Waskom, with 56 yards on 10 carries. They were 3-for-6 for 56 passing yards and one touchdown.

Winona rushers carried 35 times for 243 yards and four touchdowns. Waters led Winona in rushing with 154 yards.
