Van Vandals Win 38-0; Game Shortened By Lightning
GRAND SALINE -- Lightning was the only thing that could slow Van Friday night as the Vandals ambushed the Grand Saline Indians.

With Van leading 38-0 with a minute left in the third quarter of the season opener for both teams, the game was called by a lightning storm.

Van, which scored on every possession except one, jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a 23-yard field goal by Blake Pennington and a 34-yard scoring run by Michael Terry.

The Vandals extended their lead to 31-0 in the second quarter. The scores came on two touchdown passes by quarterback Tyler Sharpe. The first was a 36-yard pass to Pennington one play after an interception by Colt Oliver.

Sharpe then teamed up with Damon Hightower on a 40-yard pass on another one-play drive.

The final score of the half came on a 17-yard run by Terry as Van racked up 245 yards of offense in the first half to Grand Saline's three.

Van added another touchdown three plays into the third quarter on a 24-yard pass from Sharpe to Pennington to give the Vandals a 38-0 lead.
