August 30: Obama's Influences
After reading the letter from M.S.T. Namboodiri in last Saturday's paper, I agree wholeheartedly with his statement that attacks on Barack Obama based on "rumors and innuendos" are unjustified. We are in the process of choosing an individual to hold the highest office in the nation and we need to investigate his background to determine what sort of individual we will be selecting to lead our nation for the next four years. This investigation should include his entire life and that means his younger days, his time in school, while working and his short time in the political arena. Therefore, let's look at some facts about his life.
Fact No. 1: Barack Obama stated in his book that his mother was "the dominant figure in my formative years... The values she taught me continue to be my touchstone when it comes to how I go about the world of politics." So based on this fact, his current policies are based on what his mother taught him.
Fact No. 2: Stanley Ann Dunham was Barack Obama's mother. The reality of his mother's politics was that she was, according to political researcher Ted Montgomery, a "radical leftist and a cultural Marxist."
She attended Mercer Island High School, "a hotbed of pro-Marxist radical teachers." Some of her teachers and a member of the school board were self-acclaimed communists. According to Mr. Montgomery, she became "a full fledged radical leftist and practitioner of critical theory."
Based on fact, not rumor or innuendo, it is imperative that we question his character and his political leanings. One more fact to consider: When the government gives something to someone, the government must take something away from someone else. The government only has the money that it takes from its citizens.
