District 18-2A Preview
Elysian Fields and White Oak may get the headines in District 18-2A, but there are other quality teams.
Winona is one of those squads.
The Wildcats, under coach Mike Sorenson hopes to continue an upward surge.

Standouts for the Wildcats include: seniors Bryan Warren (DE/TE), Bryan Waters (LB/RB), C.J. Petty (DB/RB), Daniel Beck (LB/OL) and Taylor Murphy (DB/RB).
Junior stars are Clay Walker (LB/RB), Cody Brumfield (OL/DL), Desmond Pullum (QB/DB) and Jacob Wheeler (DB/RB).
There's also super sophomore Josh Timmons (DB/RB).
But as noted, Elysian Fields is once again touted as one of the top teams in the state.
Two standouts include running back Joe Benefield, who rushed for more than 2,000 yards and scored 19 touchdowns in helping the Yellowjackets to the state final.
Defensive end Kyle Kriegel (6-5, 240) is solid for EF. Kriegel, who has committed to the University of Texas, had some 128 tackles and five sacks last year.
White Oak, once a 3A powerhouse, will try to do the same in 2A. The Roughnecks return eight starters on both sides of the ball and that experience should propel them to the playoffs.
Leading the way is quarterback Austin Tubbs and running back Jackson McCurdy.
Harmony is also a veteran team and is led by quarterback Joe Ross.
Ross threw for 1,295 yards and 11 TDs last year.
Luke Laminack and Abraham Arreola will keep defenses on their toes with their running ability.
