August 28: A Shame
In response to the letter in the Tyler Morning Telegraph on Aug. 22, 2008, “No Humor In Stealing:”
After reading this tragic incident of someone stealing a political sign from the reader’s yard, I was totally moved by the great words which were mentioned over this terrible incident: patriotism, veterans, constitutional rights, breaking the Christian commandments, and then the word intolerance. What must the village do next to protect one’s freedom (and political signs)?
This story reminds me of when I was a child. I came home one day to find that someone took my last ice cream sandwich from the refrigerator. “Why those intolerant, nasty liberals,” I thought to myself. “This should have never happened, especially in my own neighborhood! I am a good kid.”
I think the reader should know this about our neighborhoods: they put it out by the street, and, so, it was obviously trash, and thereby, fair game.
