CANTON -- Seth Murphy and Ryan Blagg captured the championship division of the $10,000 Free State Open Golf Tournament at Van Zandt Country Club over the weekend.

Ed Gatlin, VZCC professional, said the tourney attracted more than 100 players and included golfers from mini tours, club pros and some of the top amateurs in East Texas.

He noted, "the golf course was great with 4-inch rough narrow fairways and fast miniverdia greens."

Murphy and Blagg combined for a 130, two strokes ahead of Jason Shirey and Matt Dunn.
