Lady Raiders Down Gilmer, Pine Tree
LONGVIEW -- The Lady Raiders stayed on a roll Tuesday by being unruly guests in a dual match with Gilmer and Pine Tree at Pine Tree high school.
Lee needed little time to dispatch Gilmer, 25-17, 25-12, 25-22, first and then host Pine Tree, 25-14, 25-23, 25-16, as REL ran its record 13-1 for the season.
"It's always good to get two more wins, especially coming into this weekend's tournament," said REL head coach Melissa Lee. "Gilmer is a little down from where they were last year. (Against Pine Tree), for most of the game it was close. The scores didn't reflect the match."
Against Gilmer, Lee was led by senior Sydney Lindsay's nine kills and eight digs. Senior Sarah Sivertson had nine kills, setter Beth Felix had 14 assists with Kelsey Carr finishing with 12 assists and Eva Story notching 10 digs.
Against Pine Tree, Sivertson contributed five kills, 11 assists and two solo blocks with Mary Kinsey totaling five blocks. Lindsay finished with seven kills and 10 digs while Story had 10 digs.
Lee will next play in the Tyler Invitational Tournament on Thursday. The event is bringing 32 volleyball teams to the Rose City. Pools A-D will play at Lee High School on Thursday with REL in Pool A, along with Kilgore, Mabank and T.K. Gorman. The Lady Raiders begin pool play against Gorman at 12:30 p.m.
Raider Rap: In subvarsity action, Lee JV defeated Gilmer (25-15, 25-17) and lost to Pine Tree (25-13, 20-25, 25-14).
