Aug. 26: Sad Day in Politics
RESPONSE: My father was Constable Frank Creath, Precinct 2; and I feel I must speak about what has taken place since his death. Some seem to feel we (being family and supporters) are bitter about the outcome from the Republican precinct chairs. This could not be further from the truth.
I believe a quote from Sharon Guthrie, Pct. 17 chair (Raves, Rants, Roses Aug. 17) sums it up: “…it is disgraceful to undermine the procedure by which we chose our candidate.” Our candidate — not your candidate? Kind of makes you think, doesn’t it?
Why was there never a call for a special election so the people of Precinct 2 could choose their own constable?
The letter spoke of commendations from professional peers and recommendations; but what about the voice of the people? Is that not what America was founded upon?
My father always tried to do what was right by the people who elected him, and I believe my father’s memory and the office should have been given more respect. It must be nice to have a political office handed to you on a silver platter without having to campaign and spend the time or effort to be chosen by your constituents.
It seems to me the people have spoken already, they did not want Mr. Andy Dunklin for sheriff twice, so then why would they want him for constable?
But, I guess the party knows what is best for the people. In my 18 years of voting, I have never had a doubt about being a Republican; but now I have to wonder. Not only does my family grieve for the loss of a loved one, but now we must watch the party my father represented disrespect us and the office he loved. This is truly a sad day.
