Alexander Maintains Willow Brook Lead
By JOE BUIE
Staff Writer

Two things have surprised Wes Alexander after two days of the Willow Brook Men's Club Golf Championship.

First, that he was able to birdie five of the first six holes on Friday.

Second, that he was able to stay focused after making a triple bogey at No. 10 on Saturday.

As a result, the 26-year-old Alexander has posted consecutive 69s to maintain a three-stroke lead over TCU golfer Ryan Myers (72-69).

Alexander made the turn with a five-shot lead before losing a ball on No. 10 and making a 7.

That put the lead at two shots before Myers birdied 11 and 12 to pull even.

Alexander came back with a birdie at 13 to go back up by one, got up and down from a bunker on 14, and birdied 16.

There was a two-shot swing on the final hole when Alexander chipped in for birdie and Myers bogeyed.

Alexander sits at 138 with 18 holes remaining, while Myers is at 141. Charles Bassett is third at 149.

Myers, a Robert E. Lee graduate who recently completed two years at Odessa College, made birdie putts from 30 and 20 feet on the first two holes Saturday.

Alexander then hit to within a foot for a tap-in birdie on No. 3.

Alexander, Myers and Bassett will form the final pairing, set to tee off today at 2:50 p.m.

"I'm going to try to make sure that it takes birdies to beat me," Alexander said. "Fairways and greens ΓΆΒ?Β» hit the middle of the greens and try to make birdies when I have a good chance."

The cut was 159 to remain in the championship flight for the final round. The others will compete in the presidents flight, which is currently led by Les Loggins, Mike Craig, Steve Duffey and Will DeShazo.
