Moore Cheerleaders Win Honors At Drill Camp
Moore Middle School cheerleaders traded in their megaphones for dance shoes and earned sweepstakes honors at the Showtime International Dance Camp held Aug. 13-14 in Tyler.
The competition and traditional cheerleaders combined forces to make a 39-member dance team for the camp. Because of their superior evaluations, the team has been invited to perform in the 2008 Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
Madison Powell and Victoria Vorsas tied for the highest individual honor at camp, Miss Showtime. They will be recognized as Miss Showtime at all future showtime camps for years to come.
Laura Brown and Emily Hawk made it to the final round of the Miss Showtime competition. To be nominated for this honor, dancers had to stand out above all the other dancers in all styles of dance.
Several outstanding dancers were named to the all-star team: Jamie Apoderado, Laura Brown, Alexis Crowder, Reagan Freeman, Morgan Hadsall, Emily Hawk, Erin Hicks, Madi Johnson, Monica Martin, Madison Powell, Olivia Price, Mia Shelton, Kaleigh Smith, DaJah Thompson and Victoria Vorsas. All members of the all-star team are invited to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York and the Capital One Bowl Game in Florida.
Alexis Crowder, Emily Hawk, Erin Hicks and Madison Powell were named to the prestigious High Kick Club -- an honor normally reserved for high school drill team members.
"I love giving our cheerleaders the opportunity to experience the drill team world," said Lana Cain, cheer sponsor. "When they enter high school, they will have a well-rounded resume and will make choices based on personal preference."
The Moore cheerleaders currently hold the first-place state title in both dance and cheerleading. They also won the highest honors at Universal Cheerleader Association Camp earlier this summer.
