Mike Hamilton Takes Club Title
RUSK -- Mike Hamilton won the rain-shortened Men's Club Golf Championship Sunday at Birmingham Forest Golf Club.
Hamilton carded a 27-hole score of 106 (69-37) for his fifth title in as many tries.
Placing second was Steve Winfield (73-39 -- 112), followed by Adam McElroy (77-37 -- 114) in third.
The First Flight finished up before the rains came and Jacob Raiborn (82-80 -- 162) took the title in a scorecard playoff over John C. Hauk (79-83 -- 162). Brandon Downs took third with a 163 (84-79).
Ronnie Gates captured the Second Flight with a 160 (74-86), two strokes ahead of Dan Williams (76-86 -- 162). Jan Pate finished third at 170 (82-88).
Rickie Herring defeated Jamie Magruder on the first hole of a playoff to capture the Third Flight. Herrington (76-97) and Magruder (79-94) each had a 36-hole score of 173. Jeff Johnson was third with a 176 (86-90).
Junior Washburn shot a pair of 90s for a 180 over the weekend to take the fourth flight by three strokes. Carl Hale was second at 183 (94-89), while Ricky Murphy took third with a 187 (91-96).
Gates won the long drive contest both days, while David Daniels (Saturday) and Jacob Raiborn (Sunday) won the closest to the hole contests.
Birmingham Forest Golf Club will play host to the Rusk Chamber of Commerce Tournament Sept. 13.
