Tyler Man Indicted for Capital Murder in 2-year-old's Death

Demontrell Lamar Miller has been indicted for capital murder for allegedly killing a 2-year-old boy.

The 21-year-old Tyler man was indicted last Thursday by a Smith County grand jury in 114th District Judge Cynthia Stevens Kent. The indictment was released Wednesday.

Miller could face up to life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted of capital murder for the June 1 beating death of his girlfriend's son Kelyn J'Davion Pinson.

Miller was arrested on June 2 and Tyler police have said they believe the boy died of blunt force trauma.

Officers responded to the Hidden Springs Apartments, at 2400 Shiloh Road, on a 911 call and found the child unresponsive. The toddler was transported to a Tyler hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Tyler Police Officer Doyle Lynch said Miller was watching Pinson and his own 5-month-old son while the mother of the two children was at work.

Child Protective Services responded to the hospital and took custody of the 5-month-old.

Miller remains in jail on $1 million bond.
