Aug. 19: Appalled
RANT: Those who caught the story in Friday’s paper who are animal lovers like me, were no doubt appalled by the action of a law officer. This was about the person who was caught speeding while taking a very ill dog to the Vet, and was stopped. The officer took 20 minutes to issue a speeding ticket while the precious poodle died. His retort was, in essence, was “It’s only a dog ... you can get another one.”

Any police officer with any “heart” would have said, “Get in behind me, and I will get you there with a police escort.” Why take 20 minutes to write a simple citation when time is of the essence in saving “just another dog’s” life? Where do they get guys like this to “protect” the public? I wonder if this was a case of getting a very ill person to a hospital, and was stopped for speeding, would it be approximately the same scenario, while the person died in the car? Unbelievable!
