CANTON — Department of Public Safety troopers continue their investigation into an accident that left a Wills Point man dead and a Tyler man charged with his death.

Trooper Clint Pirtle told the Tyler Morning Telegraph the investigation continues into the death of 30-year-old Ronald Lynn Reeves.

According to trooper Pirtle’s report, the accident occurred on Texas Highway 64 West about one-tenth of a mile east of Van Zandt County Road 4813 shortly before 6 a.m. on Aug 5.

The report states Reeves was riding his 1993 Honda motorcycle eastbound on Highway 64 when Christopher George Gass, who was traveling westbound in a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche drifted into his lane.

Van Zandt County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Scott Shinn pronounced Reeves dead at the scene.

Pirtle said he arrested Gass at the scene for intoxication manslaughter.

Trooper Pirtle would not comment about the specifics of the case, but he did say he made the notification to the Reeves family and also knew the devastation on the Gass family.

“This is a real tragedy for everyone involved. These are good families on both sides,” he said.
