Tobin Reid New Basketball Coach at Big Sandy
BIG SANDY -- Former Robert E. Lee boys' basketball assistant coach Tobin Reid has returned to East Texas, although he never really left.
Reid, the head coach at Fort Worth South Hills the past four years, was hired recently to lead the Big Sandy boys' basketball program.
Reid, who coached under Larry Jones at Lee for 21 years, has maintained residency in Tyler. Reid's wife, Elayne, teaches at Hubbard Middle School.
"I am thrilled to death to be back in East Texas," coach Reid said. "I said when I left here four years ago I hoped someday to come back here and coach and retire. And that's what I plan on doing."
This will be Reid's second stint as a head coach, and 27th year overall in coaching.
Reid said his fondest memories at South Hills include meeting and coaching against former Fort Worth Dunbar head coach Robert Hughes, who won more than 1,000 games.
Reid said he is currently focused on his football duties at Big Sandy.
"I don't know a lot about their basketball program," he said. "I know Big Sandy has a rich tradition in football. I'm focusing on football right now. When basketball season comes around, we'll worry about that."
