Aug. 17: 'Gimme' Attitude
RESPONSE: I found the news of TISD’s plan to replace six more schools very interesting. (TISD Board Could Call For $124.9M Bond Election; Tuesday, Aug. 12). Go ahead, put the bond proposal on the ballot for November; I dare you. It will look good next to the $50-plus million for an additional jail facility.
What are the people running the local government, law enforcement and TISD thinking? It sounds like everything in this county needs to be replaced: schools, downtown, courts and jails. And, right now.
You’d think at least one taxing entity in this county could exist for one year without a budget increase. Instead, they brag about not increasing the tax rate while enjoying tax increases from inflated property appraisals.
So let the “gimmie” attitude continue. Let’s see how the taxpayers react to $175 million-plus worth of bond proposals in November.
