Whitehouse Tops All Saints In Van Tourney
VAN -- Whitehouse went three-for-three Saturday to win the championship at the Van Tournament.
The LadyCats captured straight-game wins over Canton (25-8, 25-17) and Mineola (25-15, 25-23) before doing likewise in the championship match versus an Alisia Kastmo-led All Saints squad (25-18, 25-23).
Whitehouse (4-0) was led by its three all-tournament selections -- senior setter Christine Ford, junior middle blocker Sadie Hilburn and junior setter Sarah Stanley.
Ford fueled Whitehouse in the Canton match with 14 assists, three kills, 12 service points, and four aces. Hilburn had seven digs, nine kills, and 11 points, while Stanley and Stephanie Alexander both served for 10 points.
Hilburn (seven kills, nine digs, 11 points and three blocks) and Stanley (13 assists, two digs, eight points) carried the load against Mineola.
In the clincher, Whitehouse received solid efforts from Hilburn (seven digs, seven kills, nine points, three aces, one block), Ford (nine assists, four kills, five points), Alexa Fisher (eight points) and Mallory Smith (10 points, two aces).
All Saints (3-1) advanced to the championship with wins over Eustace (25-19, 25-23) and Van (25-18, 25-17).
Kastmo led the Lady Trojans with 45 kills, 6 blocks and 15 digs, while Rachel Pool had 55 assists.
Kastmo and Pool were named to the all-tournament team.
The Whitehouse freshmen also captured first place at the Robert E. Lee Tournament on Saturday.
"It was extremely exciting because it was so much of a team effort," said Whitehouse coach Cheryl Till. "Basically, it took each and every girl doing their part. They gelled and played extremely well as a team."
Whitehouse's puts its spotless record on the line Tuesday in a dual match against host Lee and Van in Tyler.
All Saints plays Big Sandy and Gladewater Monday.
Arp Wins Gold Bracket In Carthage
CARTHAGE -- Arp won their final two matches Saturday to win the gold bracket at the Carthage Tournament.
In its first match, Arp fell to eventual runner-up White Oak in three games (27-25, 25-27, 25-15).
The Lady Tigers took care of business afterward, beating Frankston (25-19, 25-19) and Hallsville (29-30, 25-12, 25-22).
White Oak won the championship bracket. Henderson claimed the silver bracket, and the Carthage JV the bronze division.
Eight teams began play in the championship bracket Saturday, with the four winners staying and the four losers dropping to the loser's bracket.
Kandace Sipes totaled 45 kills, 25 digs, seven blocks and 17 service aces in the three matches combined.
Kelsey Allen aided Arp with 13 kills and 29 digs in the three matches. Meanwhile, Mallory Roberts recorded 61 assists and 12 digs in the final two matches.
Arp improved their record to 6-2 on the season.
"The Arp Lady Tigers are improving with every match," said Arp coach Leigh Ann Roberts. "Look for continued improvement from these nine young ladies."
Arp hosts a dual mach with Henderson and Sabine beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
