Whitehouse Wins Championship At Van Tournament
VAN -- Whitehouse went three-for-three Saturday to win the championship at the Van Tournament.
The LadyCats captured straight-game wins over Canton (25-8, 25-17) and Mineola (25-15, 25-23) before doing likewise in the championship match versus an Alicia Kastmo-led All Saints squad (25-18, 25-23).
Whitehouse (4-0) was led by its three all-tournament selections -- senior setter Christine Ford, junior middle blocker Sadie Hilburn and junior setter Sarah Stanley.
Ford fueled Whitehouse in the Canton match with 14 assists, three kills, 12 service points, and four aces. Hilburn had seven digs, nine kills, and 11 points, while Stanley and Stephanie Alexander both served for 10 points.
Hilburn (seven kills, nine digs, 11 points and three blocks) and Stanley (13 assists, two digs, eight points) carried the load against Mineola.
In the clincher, Whitehouse received solid efforts from Hilburn (seven digs, seven kills, nine points, three aces, one block), Ford (nine assists, four kills, five points), Alexa Fisher (eight points) and Mallory Smith (10 points, two aces).
The Whitehouse freshmen also captured first place at the Robert E. Lee Tournament on Saturday.
"It was extremely exciting because it was so much of a team effort," said Whitehouse coach Cheryl Till. "Basically, it took each and every girl doing their part. They gelled and played extremely well as a team."
Whitehouse's puts its spotless record on the line Tuesday in a dual match against host Lee and Van in Tyler.
