SFA Schedules Game With Baylor

NACOGDOCHES -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team has added Baylor to its 2011 schedule, SFA Director of Athletics Robert Hill announced Monday.

The game against the Bears is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, in Waco.

"We try to schedule at least one NCAA Division I (football bowl subdivision) opponent every season," Hill said. "Our coaches and players always look forward to these games and enjoy the challenges they present. It also provides our alumni within the state another opportunity to see us play.

"Along with the excitement these games provide for our fans and players, they are also financially important to the athletic department."

The Lumberjacks are 0-3 all-time against Baylor, but it marks the first time since the 1947 season the two schools have met on the football field. It is also the second time in program history SFA has faced a Big 12 opponent (Texas Tech, 2001).

The Lumberjacks played Arizona and Tulsa during the 2006 campaign, and will be in Fort Worth to face TCU Sept. 6. Kickoff is 6 p.m.

Earlier this year SFA signed a two-game contract with SMU that will have the 'Jacks traveling to Dallas in 2009, and 2012. SFA is currently working on an FBS opponent for the 2010 season.

The Lumberjacks open the 2008 season Aug. 30 against Langston in Nacogdoches. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
