Pilgrim's Pride to Stop Production at 2 Plants
PITTSBURG (AP) -- East Texas-based Pilgrim's Pride today announced it will stop production at two chicken processing plants in a push to boost profits.

The nation's largest chicken producer says the cuts at units in Clinton, Arkansas, and Bossier City, Louisiana, will result in the loss of 600 jobs.

Ending production at the Arkansas plant will mean a more than one percent addition to the company's previously announced five percent chicken production cut heading into fall.

Processing done at the Louisiana plant will shift to other facilities.

Both changes are expected to take place within two months.

Chicken producers like Pittsburg-based Pilgrim's Pride are grappling with rising costs for feed, which is putting pressure on profit margins.

The company earlier this year closed a plant in North Carolina and seven distribution centers.
