August 10: GO FIGURE
RANT: On Aug. 4, the Republican Precinct 2 Chairs chose Andy Dunklin to replace former Constable Frank Creath. Pretty logical if you think about it. I mean, why choose anyone with actual constable experience?

They could have chosen Glenn Potter, hand-picked by Frank Creath, to replace him.

Frank Creath, elected four times by Precinct 2 citizens because with Potter’s help, they built that office from a one-man show serving the JP court only, to a three full-time and one part-time position office — an effective law enforcement service to the area.

Potter has been there for over 10 years and has a 98 percent conviction rate on all of his cases.

He is a certified canine officer, and works overtime from 8 p.m. to around 2 a.m. every Friday and Saturday at his own expense to protect the citizens of Precinct 2.

I am still at a loss for words for why a group of seemingly educated adults, after researching the qualifications of each candidate, chose the least qualified person from the group.

The only thing that comes to mind is a quote from Lazarus Long, a very wise, immortal character out of some of the books written by the famed Science Fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein, who declared, “A committee is an organism with 24 legs and no brain.”
