August 10: NEED THE COUNSELORS
RANT: In reference to the Henderson County Commissioner's Court and to the Smith County Commissioner's Court.
I am a disabled American Veteran who helps other disabled vets by assisting them to fill out paperwork to file for disabilities, etc.
My major complaint about the Henderson County office is, they are only open one-half day each day of the week, thereby preventing many veterans from being able to file their paperwork in a timely manner. Many of them go to Smith County for help, and with the high fuel prices of today that adds to their financial burden.
My major complaint with the Smith County office is the high turnover of personnel. They have lost three excellent counselors in the last two years due to the low salaries they are being paid. They are leaving because they cannot support a family on what they are being paid.
I do not think the commissioners realize the importance of these offices. With the World War II veterans getting older every day and needing more help, coupled with the influx of veterans returning from the Mideast, it is imperative that these offices have the best personnel available.
