August 10: Dilemma Causes Fear In Whitehouse
Just as many in Whitehouse, I am concerned about our water situation.
Right now the restrictions are changing so often it is very confusing. We are afraid to water because we may get in trouble with the city.
My husband and I have lived in Whitehouse 30 years. We have had water problems many of these years. The only times we have not had problems was when we were on the Tyler water system.
I have had a beauty salon here 22 years. When we were on wells back in the 1990s I never knew when I went to work in the morning whether I would have water to work with or not. Sometimes the water would be on when I got there, but be cut off in an hour. Sometimes the water would be barely running and other times the only thing coming out of the faucets would be red mud.
The city never let us know when they were having trouble with a well - just no water. In my business this can be disastrous, with even the danger of a lawsuit possible (Especially when not being able to rinse perm solution out of someone's hair and possibly burning their hair).
I'm sure city officials have spent many hours working on this situation, but we feel more planning should have been done long before now.
What happens when we have fires? What happens with more people moving to Whitehouse and using more water? What about water usage when school starts?
The letter that was in our water bill this month stated the new wells would be used only in emergency situations because they would be on generators. So where does this leave us? This is very frightening!
