August 10: BACKGROUND CHECKS
County does background checks on employees; Republican Party does not care about a person's background.
It simply amazes me how our county has implemented a background check for employees and then you have the Republican Party that does no background checks. The Republican precinct chairs in Precinct 2 had the decision to make on who to place on the November ballot. They did not listen to who the public wanted, and they did no background checks on candidates. The person will by a county employee and there was no background check.
At least a record check with the clerk's office would have shown the precinct chairs the candidate they chose has a civil judgment against him. If I as a citizen can find that much out, how hard would it have been for the precinct chairs to find out this information? And if they knew about this, what does that say about the Smith County Republic Party to put a candidate on the ballot who has to deal with the county and taxpayers' money on a daily basis (under these circumstances)?
Now I know why the Democratic Party is getting stronger; because with a Republican Party, doing what it did, who wants to align themselves with this kind of decision?
This should have been put to a vote for us the citizens to have a vote. Now we have to live with a decision that 11 people made, like it or not.
I hope voters take a good look at this the next time they go to vote and the Republican precinct chairs are voted on, as they are elected by the people also.
