Aug. 5: Pedestrian Ramps
RANT: Some time ago I was amused to see the addition of ramps at the intersection of many Tyler streets. These, apparently in response to the ADA Act from congress, allow people in power scooters or moms pushing buggies to leave the street and go to where?
Into someone’s yard with deep grass and a sprinkler system?
In the last few weeks, most notably, around the Southeast Loop near Robert E. Lee High School, numerous sidewalks are under construction. Why?
Even with the high price of fuel, I do not notice many students walking. If I find the Robert E. Lee parking lot half empty, and with a few hundred students, escorted by their moms, walking to school this fall, I will feel they were necessary.
To pay for these “improvements,” maybe there should be a $5- or $10-a-day parking fee at the school lots.
I don’t park free downtown, so why should they park free at school?
It may take severe economic pressure to get teens out of their cars and onto public transportation.
