Students Hurt When Truck Hits Bus Near Ore City
ORE CITY (AP) -- Seven children suffered minor injuries when an 18-wheeler hit the rear of their stopped school bus on an East Texas highway.
The Department of Public Safety says the accident happened Monday afternoon on Highway 259 in Upshur County, about 1½ miles north of Ore City.
According to reports, the Hallsville Independent School District bus was hauling high school students to Ben Wheeler for band camp.
DPS spokeswoman Lisa Block says one school bus broke down and stopped on the shoulder of the road. A second bus was summoned to transport the 44 children to their destination.
Block told The Associated Press that the second school bus was loaded when it was struck. She says the seven injured children were treated at the scene.
The trucker was cited for failure to control his speed.
