Travel Guide Publisher Recognizes Caldwell Zoo
Tyler’s Caldwell Zoo is one of the top 60 zoos in America, according to Intrepid Traveler, a publisher of vacation guides.

The recognition comes in “America’s Best Zoos: A Travel Guide for Fans and Families.” Authors Allen Nyhuis and Jon Wassner praise Caldwell’s wide variety of exotic animals and naturalistic animal habitats.

The East Africa exhibit is ranked as one of the 25 “must-see” zoo exhibits in the nation.

“We were thrilled to hear that our zoo was highlighted as a must-see zoo,” said Hayes Caldwell, the zoo’s executive director. “There are so many great zoos in the U.S. It’s an honor to have our East Africa exhibit recognized as one of the best.”

The four-acre exhibit features exotic wildlife and birds nestled among grasslands, marshes, waterfalls, towering trees and rocky cliffs. Wildebeest, greater kudu, warthogs, rare Grevy’s zebra and impala antelope roam alongside black rhinos, cheetahs, leopards, African lions, elephants and lemurs from Madagascar.

To celebrate its recognition, the zoo is holding Super Safari Saturdays in August and visitors can buy one ticket and get another ticket for the same or lesser value for free.

Caldwell Zoo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8.50 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-12.
